After something like 10 years of chronic shoulder pain, I tripped over a ski pole and ripped the tendon off the bone and had to have surgery. After that, I developed a real fondness for my scars. To me, they now represent places where something was broken or weak that is now healed or stronger than it was. They remind me that my body is resilient and that things that are broken can be put back together in ways that make us stronger.
