Last night, in the embrace of the dark moon in a colorful Appalachian backdrop of fallen leaves and grey, I had a dream (or nightmare?) that took place in Mars Hill. It’s a small town north of Asheville. In it, I may have discovered the root of the melancholia I often feel when I’m in these mountains.
It took place in a post-civilized world that also reminded me in the dream of what it was like when colonists began to move here after the Revolution: bleak, inspiring, and hard. I was attempting to get an old Volvo running with the plan to escape across the plains. Sparing you all the details, but the feeling it left in me once I woke was a renewed awe at how astrology helps track dreaming in a way that’s hard to place words around. It’s astounding really.
As you know, it was a Scorpio New Moon; Mars traditionally rules Scorpio. I’m on my Mars line here. The conjunction also occurred within a degree of Mars. And, yes, the Mars Hill location is just miles from where I was sleeping. With all those inputs of Martian intel, again, it helped me to—in a way—recover a piece of my soul. Whether it was some past life after the revolution or surrounding the horrors of the Civil War, something felt like it was recovered from a distant place. Just like any dream, it’s hard to articulate, but the soul knows the feeling. It’s a feeling I want to share more of. I want to teach more of what I’ve learned about dreaming with the moon and planets with you all. It’s the “dark horse” of astro-techniques.
And so, it’s stories like these we will be fishing for over the coming months with the new Class Series I’m calling Dreaming Charts. I think it will inspire many of you to develop an even deeper relationship with your chart—and soul. More info on this soon…
I hope you had a restorative dark moon. Remember as well that the Mars cazimi is on the 18th, deepening these themes and nudging us into profound soul work if we are ready. It’s a call to adventure!

My Neptune/NN line runs right through Mars Hill and my mercury line crosses their path not much further south. I wrote a little story about the dreamcatcher after a family vacation in the Appalachian Mountains during the eclipse season in the summer of 2019. I also have a picture I had taken during that time that resembles yours, only the sun was setting and there were clouds that made the shapes of two bears walking across the mountain tops along the horizon. You know I had to bring up bears😆 The kids and I painted nutcrackers yesterday during the new moon. My sons IC is 22 Scorpio and my daughters IC is 22 Scorpio. I did not read the symbol for their IC/DC till this morning and the Chandra symbol for 23 Scorpio "A Collection of Dolls" I found it funny when I read it because Nutcrackers are sort of like martian dolls😆🤩
How Strange. I, too, am just miles from that location (as of Friday evening). I was sort of drawn here, maybe for some soul retrieval, myself. I stood under the same sky at 5:30 this morning, marveling at the clarity of the stars in the absence of moonlight, with the weight of the Mars/Sun/Uranus moment on my mind. I wonder what dreams might come.
