The Milk of Rome
On the Mars cycle ending and beginning again
It’s been two years since Mars was cazimi. Every time it occurs, that icy-hot reminder in the sky disappears, to step forth again in the morning sky with fresh legs and new boots. For the better part of the next two weeks, Mars and the Sun will be traveling close to one another in Scorpio—one combust, the other bringing seemingly infinite light and power into our lives. It’s a time of Return. It is also a time to prepare for what comes next.
The actual cazimi (conjunction) will happen on November 17/18th (25º37’ Scorpio). It’s a time of profound reflection upon the battles we’ve had throughout the cycle and how we performed in them (it began in October of 21’ in Libra). Victory isn’t precisely what we are looking for, but a strength discovered we didn’t know we had. Every Mars cycle is a fractal of Campbell’s monomyth—or Hero’s Journey—we get to track and learn from if we are willing to wrestle with the challenges.
When the cycle peaked back in December of 22’ with the retrograde in Gemini, we all got to face a formidable opponent. Out there in the world, it was a brutal bear market, punishing inflation coupled with the highest interest rates in 20+ years, the collapse of FTX, the forever war in the East dragging on, and a chaotic peak to the culture war at large. Whenever Mars is retrograde, it’s also closest to the Earth; he looks big, he feels ominous, and the results never seem to be a letdown. And now, in the balsamic low-tide of the synodic cycle, we must reflect and rest and heal. SBF is headed behind bars, rates are soon to change, the carnage in the East has shifted to the Middle, and the culture war is shifting as well. The next cycle is upon us.
When Mars and the Sun finally meet, it’s the perfect moment to allow in the inception of a desire to become more powerful. We are so skilled at giving it away—at squandering it on seemingly pointless endeavors and chasing after the wrong objects of our desires. It’s in these intimate cazimi’s where we reorient to the inner and rediscover a sword in the stone.

It seems this degree intimates an improbable starting point—a miracle even—where tragedy and unbelievable triumph await. Wherever this aligns in our charts is where we will find power again in the most unexpected of ways.
There will also be an opposition Mars makes to Uranus on the 11th. Think of this as a sample of what’s to come in the form of someone else; in other words: we will need the mirror of another to show us where our next battles will take place. They will be the first ally we meet for this next journey.

Wild, there’s been a black wolf-dog hybrid on the loose in my rural part of town since last Wed. He was caught by animal control today and safely returned to his humans.

Just had the most hilarious transit. Your awesome article prompted me to look up where all this Mars Cazimi was happening in my chart because I had to talk to my lawyer that day to highlight some important technical details, and right some wrongs and saw that transiting Mercury was directly conjunct my natal Neptune in 12th house, and I’m like, “how’s this going to work?” lol. In the meeting, I tried all the technical stuff, but instead I just cried, lol. But a transformative cry, which seems to have stopped my nightmares of late. Crying is communication too after all. Whether the technical details conveyed or not, what I needed to happen got a green light and the negotiation swung in my favor. Transiting Venus directly conjunct my Natal Pluto had to have helped. Can’t wait to send the supporting paperwork on the 17th/18th - this reason I even have an attorney occurred in Oct 2021 just like your article describes - AND in relation to my mother, another spot on theme, AND her two adopted, cast out, romulus and remus sons!
