If we could calculate how much time we’ve wasted, perhaps it would inspire better spending in our futures. Whether it’s doomscrolling or taking in the countless opinions of strangers online, entertaining our vices or debating about the pervasive news cycle with friends and family, there is clearly waste we can all spot in our lives, and it must be cleaned up. It’s the type of command that can only come from Mars and Saturn. Currently, they are trine to one another in the sky (Cancer/Pisces). These are some thoughts on the matter…
These two ‘malefics’ are the best at assisting us in staying on track. Saturn trains Mars and Mars pushes against Saturn’s dictates. It’s a match made in heaven. Now, being that Mars is currently retrograde (close, bright, and full of piss n’ vinegar) and Saturn is slowly letting the tides take him home to cross the Aries Point in May, one could say that Mars has the upper hand—or at least he’s more obvious at the moment. Think: DOGE. USAID. The Red King? What just arose in you was Mars. The anger and hate, but also the rallying cry to expose the swamp. It all depends on how you are looking at it. And in either interpretation, Mars is still the bomb placed in the middle of it all. Again, it depends on your angle of interpretation on whether it’s good or bad, yet it’s still Mars at the center of the drama. The trine is the alliance of the two to make it all happen and to give us the opportunity to move through it all with wyrd grace and a smile.
Wherever the trine is happening in our own charts, the same image can be applied. Where Mars has been Rx (Leo/Cancer) in our chart is where we find the explosiveness, and wherever Saturn sails in Pisces is where we remain stuck, lost, or bloated. They work well together. Mars helps to extract the garbage and Saturn helps curb the enthusiasm. There is no panacea; there is only hard work. They remind us that our feelings are legit, yet sometimes they need to be ignored. There is real work to be done.
I think most of us are familiar with Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hour rule by now from his book The Outliers, even if it has been somewhat discredited. For me, it matters not. It’s still a wonderfully saturnine concept that can inspire greatness and open a path toward mastery. If you aren’t familiar, the idea is simple: If you spend ten thousand quality hours doing something with all your heart and focus, by the end, you will have attained some level of mastery of the subject. Now, it’s interesting to note here, that 10,000 days leads us to the beginning of our Saturn Return. There’s a lot to say on that, but I’ll leave that idea here for now, and you can take it to sit with. And so, for me, it’s an idea that fits perfectly with the Mars/Saturn complex. And when they are trine to one another like today, we find a sweet spot—an inspiration—to start chiseling away at some of those 10,000 hrs. It’s going to take time. Hopefully, we spend it well.
Mercury is also cazimi today (20° Aquarius). Direct, moving faster than our minds can even fathom, it occurs on the other side of the Sun. It’s the midpoint of his synodic cycle. Being that it occurs in Aquarius, we know it’s ruled by both Saturn/Uranus. There’s lots to say about Uranus, but focusing on Saturn for now because of the trine, there is a way to see how these two transits happening side by side are attempting to focus minds and help to consolidate our energies.
To properly understand what a cazmi is for Mercury when in direct motion, we have to look back to the beginning. These are cycles after all. The beginning of this Mercury cycle was on Dec 6th (14° Sag). Naturally, this is when Mercury was also retrograde. The work we must put in is around connecting the themes from then to now. Questions to ask: What ideas were orbiting tight in our minds back then? What were you reading or listening to around that date? What house did it fall in? Planets to consider? And if you do this, you will inevitably find an Idea that has magically carried itself into this moment. It now has stronger wings. It’s made a few mistakes, but edits were made. It has helped you better understand that area of your life and it will continue, as long as we keep paying attention and secure an open mind around it all.
In summation, this trine between Mars/Saturn and the cazimi on this lazy Sunday afternoon reveals an opening in our thinking. It could be a pivot in our approach to how our days are spent. It’s like being inspired by ideas like 10,000 hours or what it would actually feel like to have something sturdy like a practice in our lives. It seems to be a temporary reprieve or grace period granted to us before everything starts crossing the Aries point in the coming months. This story has only just begun. We need to be strong and resilient in it, familiar with our ground state, and absolutely open to everyone’s take on what’s happening. Nobody is right, and nobody should be left behind.
Enjoy the opening…oOo

Oof, Early December
I went down a portal of finding Persephone in my chart.(Thanks to your podcast with Andrea Michelle Haeckel). Natal, Persephone is conjunt my Sag rising and Hades is at 23 Taurus in my S node. In early December she was in Capricorn, and has now crossed the threshold of Pluto on my Sun/Mercury in Aquarius. She’s now at 5, Aquarius. Had another wild synchronicity while re-listening to that same episode on a road trip in early January. I probably wouldn’t have listened to it again if it hadn’t been for Lara sending it to me after I had already listened to it. You and Andrea were going deeper into Ceres (about half way through the episode) as this was happening I’m driving past a sign in a hobonk town that says “Ceres next 3 exits”. Then pass 3 more really big signs that make sure you’re not gonna miss your exit to get to Ceres.
I think it’s safe to say Persephone is rising.
"Nobody is right, and nobody should be left behind."
If I could create my own coat of arms (this coming from a natal stellium Aries that includes Sun, Mercury, and Mars) it would say the words above.
