Whenever Venus slips from the Western skies, a bittersweet melancholy is born. No longer are we graced with her light when the day is done; her bright reflections from those creamy pastels of the post-Sun hours leave only a trace of an entire cycle for us to contemplate. And what else? We also know she is coming closer to us.
Once Venus leaves the evening sky, she must pass between us on Earth and the Sun. This process combusts fraying heartstrings in painful flames, while at the same time sending out fresh shoots looking for new strings to tangle with. Venus is our entangled life.
One of the biggest teachings for me so far with this Leo cycle about to begin has been around the connection between our essence and how we choose to share it. If you have made the choice to share some of this with the world—to go out on your own following the zigzagged footprints of the Fool—then you know what I’m trying to get at. There is pressure around both quantity and quality; there are expectations pinging from multiple directions; there is the non-circular nature of constantly sharing, seemingly getting little in return; it is the sacrifice we make for what we love and know to be true. It is the way, but it ain’t easy.
Emotions like envy, pride, ecstasis, exhaustion, and teenage-level rebellion burst from my heart at times when I’m too close to these Leo stars. For some, the burden is so heavy they can’t share themselves at all with the world (online) because of similar emotions. And who says we have to? Nobody per se, it is unsaid. Assumed. It is the way, but not everyone’s; yet, it can seem like it is. The pressure can be a dangerous antagonist.
So, what to do? What’s the move? I say keep creating! Don’t ever stop leaning into who we are—despite the fear of critique or not being understood. Just be true. And remember, as Kerouac once said: comparisons are odious things.
To be the creator—not the creature—of culture. That’s the big idea.
